Buddha Dog

Buddha Dog has taken the world’s most underrated meals and made it the front runner in their efforts to change the way Torontonians view food. Everything from their unique product offerings, to company philosophy, Buddha Dog has filled a void that was missing in Toronto’s food scene.
Buddha Dog’s philosophy is based on a movement called “The Slow Food Movement” which was founded by Carlo Petrini in Italy as a resistance movement to combat fast food. It claims to preserve the cultural cuisine and the associated food plants and seeds, domestic animals, and farming within an ecoregion. Buddha Dog stands firm behind these core values that the Slow Food movement was founded on.
There are 4 main components to their hot dogs: the hot dog, the sauce/topping, the cheese & the bun; all of which are outsourced to local suppliers that have been strategically & carefully picked by Buddha Dog. Local Picton butcher Ted Aman handcrafts these tasty gourmet dogs specifically for Buddha. Their wonderfully baked mini hot dog buns are created by local baker Peter Grendel on a weekly basis. As for their cheese offerings, they are supplied by local cheese coop, Black River Cheese. Lastly, their sauces are regularly created by local up and coming chefs and promote the many flavors of the region.
Co-owners Andrew Mackenzie and Andrew Hunter are a couple of great guys that not only want to make a difference in the city but in the world of food. If you ever get a chance to swing by this spot you won’t be sorry.
